Premiere on January 29, 2026Journey through the Milky Way
JOURNEY THROUGH THE MILKY WAY is a visually stunning journey through time that takes us billions of years into the past and millions of years into the future of our galaxy. We witness cosmic encounters that have shaped the fate of the Sun, our place in the universe, and perhaps even the course of life itself.
Presented with remarkable realism using the ZEISS star projector, our journey begins with an impressive view of the Milky Way, seen with a clarity normally achievable only under ideal conditions.
In a digital simulation, we then experience spectacular moments of our solar system: the orbits of stars and comets, breathtaking clouds of gas and dust — and, for the first time ever visualized, the dramatic and still ongoing merger of our galaxy with a smaller satellite galaxy.
JOURNEY THROUGH THE MILKY WAY was created by a team of experts in astronomy, scientific visualization, and art. The data used are based on one of the most significant scientific projects of this century: the ESA’s Gaia mission, which mapped the precise positions, distances, and motions of nearly two billion stars in our galaxy.
The project was developed by the American Museum of Natural History in cooperation with NASA.
